Boy Scouts Build Pondless Waterfall

!: Boy Scouts Build Pondless Waterfall

Over 100 Boy Scouts particpated in building a pondless waterfall during a one week summer day camp this past July. As part of their daily Nature session, Aquatic Connections supervised and guided the Scouts with their project. The boys were split up into groups of 15 to 20 kids and the groups rotated in to help with the pondless waterfall construction throughout each day. The hill was scraped for them, forming the stream area and then the boys began the aquatic transformation. They dug, they hooked up the pump and the tubing, they installed the liner and they moved lots and lots of rocks! The Scouts saw their progress everyday as the pondless waterfall came to life. On the last day of camp, the Boy Scouts and their parents were excited as the pondless waterfall was turned on and the water began to flow down the stream. It amazed them that the water disappeared into the ground and re-appeared at the top of the waterfall. Great job Scouts! this is the pond I built after one year. It has taken on its own character and is a great place to spend a few hours just relaxing. There are 16 fish in the pond: 7 koi and 9 gold Fish. The Largest Koi are about eight inches long and you can see three of the koi in this video. Building the pond was one of the coolest things I have ever done! The Fall is only running with one of the two 8000 gph pumps but when both pumps are running it is loud and really cool!
